Past Life Regression, or PLR, is a technique, most frequently using hypnosis, which allows individuals to recall memories of events that occurred prior to their birth, sometimes called their present incarnation.
There are, of course, several competing explanation for the PLR phenomenon:
1. PLR is a fantasy in which false memories are recalled during hypnosis.
2. Reincarnation is real and memories recalled during PLR are actual memories from a previous life or lives.
3. Memories recalled during PLR are, in fact, actual memories. However these memories are not necessarily memories from this persons past life experiences, but rather memories recalled by some other agency which imitates actual recall.
It is important to note that it is possible that both explanations 2 and 3 could potentially coexist. It is entirely possible that, in some instances, memories are direct result of reincarnation while in other instances, the memories, while not false, are the result of some other process which way will the discuss in detail.
Interestingly, both of these explanations assume that memory is stored somewhere other than in the brain itself. In fact, these explanations point out a dichotomy, or split, between the concept of brain, which is a physical bodily organ, and mind, which is something that may exist independently from the physical body.
In any event, the objective of this publication is twofold. The first is to explore how the use of hypnosis can facilitate PLR and the second is to explore the nature of the memories recalled and their explanation.
